YouTube's launching a members-only version of Shorts, in which creators can upload short-form videos that are only accessible to paying viewers. It gives paying subscribers some additional content beyond the perks they already have, including custom emojis, badges, live streams, and more.

Members Only Shorts on YouTube may pique some interest in joining YouTube Premium. YouTube says it will enable creators to use the new option to share a special announcement, product drop, or limited-time deal. Creators can use Members Only Shorts for Q&As, behind-the-scenes looks, or clips of upcoming content.

The move comes following the announcement from TikTok that it has opened its subscription offering to more creators. The LIVE Subscription monetization tool is going by a new name, according to an announcement from TikTok earlier this month: "Subscription". The tool is shortly going to expand to non-LIVE creators. It will, thus make it possible for ordinary creators to post their exclusive videos-which only paying subscribers can have access to.

Once a Short is uploaded, the creator can select the new "members only" option under the "visibility" section and share it only with his or her subscribers. The creator can also make any Short already uploaded members only. Additionally, creators can schedule the Short to go from being members only to becoming public to allow subscribers first access to content prior to such content becoming available for others.

This Google-owned company encourages creators to make shorts pretty casual and more organic than public material. Probably it's about making the subscribers feel they have a more intimate glimpse into the life and activities of the creator.

Members will be able to view the short form videos that have already been dubbed exclusive in the Shorts tab, Subscriptions feed and even through a creator's channel. The star icon will mean it's only available to paying subscribers.

YouTube announced that Shorts averages more than 70 billion views every day and that more than 25% of the channels in YouTube's Partner Program monetize their videos using revenue-sharing in Shorts.
