Instagram is like, "We do music too, see..." with the addition of music tracks to Notes.
Instagram has introduced a new option to add music tracks to Notes.

This seems like yet another push by Meta to stay atop TikTok, but not sure how much real world value it's going to add.

Today, Meta unveiled a new ability to attach music tracks to your Instagram Notes, giving yet another outlet to engage with the now 6-month-old Stories-like DM option.
now, you’ll be able to include a song in your Note, which will then be highlighted to users in the Notes shelf at the top of their inbox. So they can then tap through and listen to it.

Though, why they would want to, I’m not entirely sure. Maybe you share a new track with your friends or look to highlight a band you know, or even your own music. I don't know, I don't see much in the way of enhancement value trying to get people to listen to your favorite track of the moment, MySpace-style, but maybe there's a use case and value that I'm not seeing, which will make it a good addition.

But as mentioned, it feels like another attempt to go chasing the TikTok dragon. TikTok has become one of the key distribution channels for the latest music trends and, therefore, is becoming a big focus for record labels and publishers as well. It is this power of culture-shifting which plays the most significant role in the above, and IG just feels like trying to latch onto the same. Like 'we do music too, see'. That kind of thing.

Still, Notes, in general doesn't appear to be a flagship engagement winner in the app, although Instagram overlord Adam Mosseri has repeatedly pointed out that it is doing well in his weekly Q and A Stories.

In fact, according to Meta, Notes is performing especially well among younger users: more than 100 Million teen accounts shared a Note in the last 90 days. Teen users, says Meta, create notes at 10 times the rate of non-teens, while over 20% of the Notes created by teens receive a reply.

Those aren't mind-blowing usage stats, but they do likely reflect that my skepticism is at least partly due to me not being the target audience for the option.

And now teens can also make people listen to their favorite track of the moment via the option.

Which is cool? I don't know.
