YouTube is looking for increased government support for creators based in the UK.

YouTube is holding a survey with UK creators in a bid to plead with the UK government to offer more resources and support for creative talent.

The survey, running in partnership with Public First, is part of a bigger campaign to raise awareness over the impact that creators have on the UK economy and the need for more avenues to stretch it.

YouTube says :

As Oxford Economics points out, more than 15,000 creators and partners in the UK use other people to work on their YouTube channel. They are modern-day media houses-they have production studios, dedicated teams, and very sophisticated storytelling skills. Their content is delivering global reach impact, with 85% of UK creator watchtime coming from overseas.

According to early responses to the survey, says YouTube, creators are seeking further support in several key areas:

Formal training programs in industry education to strengthen local support and capacity
Expanded studio space for projects outside of London
Rules for public filming simplified
Access to finance: Many creators say they are having difficulty getting access to financial support, including loans
Open up the creative industry: Online content creators reach out for validation through their traditional peers, who then ask to access funding and events in that realm.
It is the first time that YouTube is consulting creators with a view to forwarding official proposals of this kind to the U.K. government, and with the Creator Economy looking at facilitating more opportunity for creators of all kinds, it could be an important step in democratizing access and enabling more people to monetize and maximize their efforts.

Coupled with the increasingly exploding generative AI, creators have more tools than ever in their toolbox to render the artistic vision. As is always the case, though, the support system to enable that room for creative exploration to happen requires change in government support programs for the next generation of talent.

The great push from YouTube, and this will be interesting to see if it sways U.K. politicians.
