The company is adding a new poll sticker in Shorts, updating its "Views" display to reflect growth in Shorts view-through, and experimenting with a new form of gamification for Super Chat.
First off: on Shorts polls. Now you can drive even more engagement with your Shorts by asking your audience for their opinion, via a new, dedicated poll sticker for your Shorts content.
Says YouTube:
Earlier, in order to poll their communities, creators could only create a poll post or ask users to comment on a video. Now, creators can add a poll sticker directly to a Short and have their viewers tap an option to vote.
As you can see above, creators will be able to see the percentage of votes for each option in Shorts polls as well as the exact count of total votes on the sticker.
That will give you another reason to attract your YouTube audience, and also increase reach with your Shorts content. And because Shorts drive 70 billion daily views, that may give you another way to tap into the popularity of the format.
YouTube says that Shorts poll stickers will be rolling out to all creators over the next week.
YouTube will also add a new format filter to the "Views" display, so you will be able to see views broken down by content type.
Given the above growth in Shorts, this is a consideration that's more significant today in that Shorts drive a growing number of views for a variety of different channels. Thus, the ability to easily view your content broken down by format will help illustrate where you should be focusing your creative efforts to grow your audience.
The new view will appear in both the desktop and mobile app.
YouTube is also experimenting with Super Chat goals, not only on live streams but also on Premieres. In principle, this will drive Super Chat revenue generation to a game-like level.
Creator-defined rewards for reaching a Super Chat goal create an overlay on screen that counts down toward a certain goal with a selected reward. This can help users participate in order to support reaching a goal, creating more engagement and money for the creators.
There will also be an animation for when the goal is met.
And although it may feel a bit unnatural to have viewers compete to donate, it's likely to see huge interest particularly on specific channels and niches.
Super Chat goals will be initially rolled out to a curated group of live creators who have Super Chat turned on.
Last, YouTube's also adding the capacity to block specific categories of ads from appearing on your content at the channel level.
In other words, you and your creators will always be able to block ad categories via AdSense, but now you'll also be able to do it within YouTube itself.
As YouTube puts it:
By the end of this week, ad blocking controls will be available at the channel level, and accessible via YouTube Studio on desktop for creators who have watch page monetization enabled. To access this feature, visit the "Settings" tab in YouTube Studio.".
Some interesting updates come along with degrees of value for brand marketers within the app.
