That is going to be really useful.
YouTube said that all U.S.-based creators can start utilizing the "Dream Track" audio-generation process that allows you to trigger AI to create short audio pieces based on text.
Dream Track is the result of working with a variety of artists to build an audio cue library for the AI to draw from. It was announced by YouTube last year, 2023.
The first project, rolled out to a select group of creators in the United States, was based on Google DeepMind's Lyria music model and allowed the user to create his/her very own unique, royalty-free soundtracks of up to 30 seconds-long that would be perfect for Shorts videos.
YouTube CEO Neal Mohan reports that all US creators can now use Dream Track to generate instrumental audio clips for Shorts, and longer clips (with the YouTube Create app), though some limitations still hold on the kind of audio you can generate-so far, you can't generate vocals.
On the other hand, though, this may be a valuable addition to video production work: custom audio - which is only available for content that is unique itself - can even help to create the atmosphere and make your short clips' presentation richer.
It's also a glimpse into the future of audio production on YouTube, with the tools that will create stock-style audio for your uploads.
As pointed out, Dream Track initially also had collaborations with various popular artists, and YouTube would go on to promote it as a way "to explore how the technology could be used to create deeper connections between artists and creators, and ultimately, their fans.".
As much as that's where Dream Track might seem to have ended up-focusing more on basic jingle creation-a lot may still be to come from the project, even seeing this expand into an even more powerful tool for audio generation on top of your content.
In that sense, then, this release might be a good deal more important than it feels like.
Either way, it's worth an experiment. Dream Track is being rolled out to all U.S. creators from today.
