YouTube is broadening access to its conversational AI tool, essentially a chatbot that can answer queries related to your video interactions.

YouTube is enhancing access to its conversational AI tool, allowing users to engage with a chatbot that answers queries related to their video interactions. The AI bot can be accessed through an “Ask” button located beneath video clips for those with access. When users tap this prompt, the bot suggests questions based on the video content and allows them to enter their own queries for further exploration.

Initially launched for select Premium subscribers in the U.S. last November, YouTube is now expanding this feature to all YouTube Premium members using Android devices in the U.S. However, this expansion is still limited to paying subscribers at this stage.

This move will provide more users the chance to test the AI tool while also giving YouTube valuable insights into how people utilize it. While current trends indicate that users are increasingly turning to AI chatbots for content discovery, many YouTube users may continue to rely on traditional search methods, leading to potentially limited immediate interest in the feature.

As younger generations grow up with generative AI as a standard tool, the relevance of such features is expected to increase over time. YouTube’s gradual approach to expansion and development may eventually make this AI tool a more integral part of the platform.

At present, access remains restricted, but it is now available to Premium subscribers using Android in the U.S.
