And so, new Meta Quest hardware is finally here, courtesy of Meta that announced quite a bunch of software news right alongside Quest 3 VR headset hardware reveal at its Connect conference. One such announcement includes the debut of Microsoft's Xbox Cloud Gaming service on Meta Quest 3, although ironically, that is kind of huge for fans of this Facebook owner's mixed reality gear.
In the way Xbox Cloud Gaming works in Quest, it's almost similar to Apple's own demonstration of its vision for mixed reality inside Vision Pro: it's essentially just a virtual screen floating in either a virtual or mixed reality space, appears to be reposition-able and resizable, but basically works exactly as you'd expect an Xbox game to work with a large TV. It is an important admission on Meta's part that while immersive, native gaming is an obvious attraction for users; so, too, is a more traditional experience that mainly serves to profit by occurring in your own private face-mounted theater.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg also said that it'll arrive sometime in December but didn't give a date for the launch.
