Elon Musk keeps up his crusade against "woke" titles and departments. "Trust and Safety" apparently is too woke. Or something.
Today, X (formerly Twitter) announced it is renaming its "Trust and Safety" team to simply "Safety."
Which isn't much of an announcement, but just in case you're going to go hunting for X's Trust and Safety team in the future, this is where to look.
As explained by X:
"Trust is something that must be earned. And as an entirely new company, with an entirely new set of priorities, we are intentionally renaming our Trust & Safety team to Safety. Our team remains indispensable, and our mission stays the same: to provide a safe environment for all users on the platform-on their terms."
Which is an odd paragraph on many levels, and much of the words to declare the name change.
Elon followed this up with his own comments, saying that:
"Any organization that puts 'Trust' in their name cannot be trusted, as that is obviously a euphemism for censorship. Trust is something that must be earned. The goal of our Safety team is simply to ensure compliance with the laws that already exist to protect the people."
Which is also a weird declaration, but again, the bottom line is that "trust" means bad stuff in Elon's universe, so X won't use that term anymore.
X has also emphasized its critical objectives: to protect users, not to cave to censorship and to be open.
He continues to speak out about censorship wherever he sees it and ignore it where he doesn't, with Musk continuing to censor various individuals, publications, and entities on his platforms, via either on-platform penalties or litigation, however he seems fit.
So who cares what any of this means within his chosen context, but again, the bottom line information is that if you want to find X's "Trust and Safety team", you're now just looking for "Safety" instead.
Nothing operational is changed. Just the name.
FYI.
