What Elon wants is to be the first, primary source of news updates to X people, constantly telling his "everything app" as a competitor to mainstream publishers, and the only platform willing to tell the truth-direct from the public. That's why, in Elon's world at least, the media at large is now out to get him.
Which isn't true, but that is the line he's taking, to fuel his alternative news push.
As part of this, X has already expanded the length of posts to enable more context in updates, and soon, X users will also be able to publish articles direct on X, in a new longer content format, which could also get its own in-app feed.
So, X is now testing a new "X articles" update which should apparently deliver a dedicated blog posting system, along with a custom link preview card within the X feed. It should take users through to a more traditional news content format.
Indeed, also interesting to note that this new card comes with a preview image, headline, and summary section, much like the old Twitter link preview format that Elon axed back in October, citing "esthetics" for the removal. This format looks nearly identical, while Elon's has already added headlines back into link preview cards because the new format just made no sense.
Native-hosted articles from X, according to the leak, are coming with an 'X article' tag so users know that content is natively hosted on the app direct.
It's basically similar to Facebook's "Instant Articles," which load faster and look better because they're built directly within the app.
There's a clue, of course, that Facebook retired Instant Articles in 2022 because they were no longer holding value in usage trends.
However, on X many things old are new again: there's live-streaming and video calls, to name a few, and Elon and Co. will likely utilize this new publishing option in yet another avenue to entice further creators to post directly to the app. That will also likely include some form of revenue share incentive that will let more people more ways to make money online.
Just how this would work precisely is unclear, but the idea, again, plays into Elon's overall vision of X as a central news source-likely to be a huge focus this year, with the U.S. election on the horizon.
As Elon has indicated a desire to root for the Republican camp and appears determined to use his forum in order to promulgate key political talking points, in keeping with that affiliation. More contributors sharing articles on the same could help make X a key weapon for boosting this cause over the coming months.
As that is the case, look for it to come out soon and if you read Tesla, Republican talking points, and/or political conspiracy content, I am sure you'll have much to read when that time comes.
And maybe, depending on how X approaches the utility of this new service, new opportunity will be given for content creators.
We will wait and see how X looks to boost the option.
