X has introduced one-time API access expansions to support a wider range of use cases.

In response to the numerous requests emanating from various developers, X introduces a new API access process that shall provide API subscribers with extra 10k posts within a given threshold monthly.
To X,

You can now purchase a cap increase that will allow you to GET more posts (FKA Tweets) through the X API v2. Note: Basic and Pro are capped at 10 and 5 Top-Ups per cycle, respectively.

Yes, they still reference "FKA Tweets". Of course they should, as that is what most developers and systems still identify the app with but is yet another reminder of the rushed rebrand that X did last year.

X raised the price of its API access a year ago, which has since priced many third party tools out of the market, due to significantly higher costs of access.

Ostensibly, the higher prices have been designed to curtail AI companies from using X data, and training their models on such-OpenAI, specifically. But at the same time, X is looking for ways to generate more revenue, as many advertisers still remain wary of Elon Musk's project.

For example, currently, Basic X offers the most popular API package at $100 per month, which provides users read-only access to 10,000 posts per month. But if you pay $5,000 a month for the Pro package, you can enjoy access to a million X posts during that period.

Compare that to the old pricing of Twitter's API, where its top-level Premium package cost most developers about $2,899 per month, and you can get a sense of why many struggled and have simply abandoned their apps in many cases.

With this new option, the latest in the platform's efforts to maintain connection with critical developer communities, X looks to facilitate more use cases, variable pricing, and packages.

And it will help, and it'll be interesting to see whether it also helps X generate more data access revenue, as more platforms look to expand their access.
