Per a post on the X network, formerly known as Twitter, creators have received almost $20 million in payouts, CEO Linda Yaccarino has reported.
The new platform, named X, has also started paying creators their cut of ad revenue they make off ads shown within the replies to their posts from other verified users. To qualify, users must be subscribed to X Premium – the new title for Twitter Blue and not a porn site – to have more than 500 followers and to have earned more than 5 million tweet impressions for the last three months.
Build. Engage. Gather all on X. We are empowering the economic opportunity of new segments like creators. And to date, we've paid out close to $20 million to our creator community. https://t.co/kk137uPkAo
Owner Elon Musk said payments in July, which were cumulative from February, totaled around $5 million. If X has now paid $20 million, it means far more creators are on the creator program, or that X ads are generating more impressions.
Creators are also now incentivized to get people to reply back to them on tweets. Now, this may only promote conversation but we already know from platforms like Facebook, that extreme emotions drive the most engagement.
Yet it's been a de-prioritized platform by creators since its conception, for it's remained very hard to turn a following into cash-on YouTube for instance, creators in its partner program have been receiving a cut of ad revenue since the dot-com bubble burst, two decades ago. Now that creators can monetize on the platform, there's reason to subscribe to X Premium (.) still not a porn site. and get posting.
