After TikTok restored Passkey access in July, X and LinkedIn too start working on the same enabling users to log securely with a better alternative.
According to Steve Moser, new back-end code upgrade in both of these apps seem to present the support for Passkeys, however, neither have confirmed it officially as yet.
Passkey support is using cryptographic data transfer, with logins protected with this. This automatically allows users access to each app through on-device biometric authentication options like Face and Touch ID.
As the FIDO Alliance; a cybersecurity group explains in the explanation:
"Passkeys replace passwords for faster, easier, and more secure sign-ins to websites and apps across a user's devices. Passkeys resist phishing, are always strong, and contain no shared secrets. They simplify account registration for apps and websites, are easy to use, work across all of a user's devices as well as other devices within physical proximity."
The FIDO Alliance has been coming along touting the use of passkeys as ways to combat the spread of online scam activity, with the more personalized identifiers making it even harder for other people to steal your identity and/or use your credentials.
In turn, social platforms ought to come into line with better security measures, and you may well be able to expect the appearance of even more apps adding Passkey access options in future.
According to Moser, top tech giants such as Apple, Google, and Microsoft have already agreed to support Passkey in their different applications and platforms.
This may be the future of social media where things get easier, smoother, and more secure.
