WhatsApp has just unveiled a new feature that will permit users to create groups under the instant messaging service without assigning names to them. The feature of creating groups with an option of not naming them has taken precedence over the previous mode in which users have to assign names to the groups created.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the feature on Wednesday on his Facebook page and Meta's Instagram channel. This will help create a group even when one hasn't made up their mind yet on what the subject should be or when it has to be done very fast.

However, unlike the normal WhatsApp group, which can add a maximum of 1,024 participants, the messaging app confirmed to TechCrunch that unnamed groups will be limited up to six participants. These groups will dynamically name according to the users added to a group, the company says.

The group name will vary for each of the users based on how he or she has saved contacts in his phone. If you're joining an unnamed group with a person who hasn't saved his contacts, then your number will show up in the group name, the app said. This shows the feature might be more oriented towards friends and family with whom a person is already acquainted.

The company plans to roll out the feature globally over the next few weeks.

It has been just days since the instant messaging app WhatsApp introduced support for HD photos. The app boasting more than two billion users across the world also aims to roll out support for HD videos in the near future, it said.

In the past few weeks, it has released an updated version of its app, WhatsApp, that features screen-sharing during video calls and the recording and sharing of short video messages.
