Twitter has since removed the tweets announcing the policy that did not allow users to post handles and links to other social networks. The company has also quietly removed the policy page outlining these restrictions. Meanwhile, the Twitter Safety account initiated a poll asking whether the company should have a policy on accounts used merely to promote other social networks.
Should we have a policy that prohibits creating or using existing accounts to primarily advertise other social media?
But criticism piled up since it made that policy update, when replying to one of the users, Musk talked about in that the policy is going to change, and suspending accounts shall also depend on which accounts do not exist but just only to spread other social networks. So far, there's no announcement from Twitter until yet with regard to its update policy.
Here is the rest of the story.
In this meanwhile, the world of the soccer fans had been wholly captivated by an exhilarating end of the final match of the FIFA World Cup, and Twitter threw an enormous bombshell as it strictly banned all links relevant to the sharing of other social networks and banned those one after the other. This list comprises some such names along with Facebook, Instagram, Mastodon, Truth Social, Tribel, Nostr, and Post as well, along with link-in-bio tools such as Linktree and Lnk.Bio that are generally used in support of the creators as well but business. Basically, you cannot share links to your other social profiles or even type in your handle into a tweet.
The company owned by Elon Musk "no longer allows free promotion of certain social media platforms" on Twitter. The company indicated that it's removing "all accounts whose primary purpose is the promotion of another social network." It further intends to remove links of content from above-mentioned social platforms.

The social platform said on its policy page that "we know that many of our users may be active on other social media platforms; however, going forward, Twitter will no longer allow free promotion of specific social media platforms on Twitter.".
Twitter will prompt you to delete your tweets if you link out your handles and multiple violations of this policy will result in a temporary account lock. According to the company, it will temporarily suspend the account if you have links to any of these platforms in your bio and asks you to change your bio.
What's strange is that the company Musk will preside over allows you to share your handle if you're willing to pay to amplify the tweet.
Saturday night, Twitter locked down the account of Washington Post journalist Taylor Lorenz. Lorenz had recently purged all her tweets and had only three posts on her account: two promoting her other social media accounts, and one asking Musk for comment on a story she is working on with Drew Harwell, another Post writer. Other journalists suspended include The New York Times' Ryan Mac, who tweeted on the topic of Mastodon's new Twitter for linking to an Elon Jet Mastodon account. A CNN reporter known as Donie O'Sullivan was also banned. Others were restored after billionaire CEO started voting process with Twitter users, where he set a pole asking whether one should be banned.
Indeed, all this happened when Lorenz posted her other social media handles and was suspended for the same. That is not a policy existing from the beginning. Up until now, her account is restored.
