President-elect Donald Trump will fight for the barrier to be torn down against TikTok, the short-form video-sharing app banned in the United States, reported The Washington Post on Tuesday. Prior to the elections, Trump assured voters he'd save the popular social media app if they elected him.

In another article, former Trump advisor and campaign manager Kellyanne Conway told the Post that "the president-elect appreciates the breadth and reach of TikTok," and "there are many ways to hold China to account outside alienating 180 million U.S. users each month."

According to the Post, three unnamed Trump aides believe the president-elect will intervene on behalf of the application to end the planned ban.

While Trump was the one who initiated calls to ban the app during his first term, the president-elect took a different approach during his 2024 campaign, as he's now concerned that a TikTok ban would benefit Meta.

After the bipartisan bill was signed into law by President Biden, the parent company of TikTok, ByteDance, was given until January 19th, just one day before Trump's inauguration, to sell the app. TikTok has been fighting the looming ban and argued that the bill violates the U.S. Constitution.
