In May, Apple CEO Tim Cook wore a single, unique one-of-a-kind pair of Nike sneakers whose decorative stitching included the words "Made on iPad.".
It was not, then, simply a collab between Apple and Nike. As Bloomberg reminds readers, Cook has been on Nike's board since 2005, when Cook was still second banana at Apple under Steve Jobs and the iPhone did not yet exist in the world.
It is a bigger commitment than some might think. As reports from Bloomberg, Cook is not only Nike's lead independent director and compensation committee chairman but as part of a needed turnaround story right now at Nike, Cook has helped bring former Nike executive Elliott Hill aboard as the company's newest CEO.
Hill, who began her career at Nike as an intern and retired in 2020, returned last week to replace former eBay CEO John Donahoe, whom Cook had supported for the top job previously. Beset by slowing growth in China and other challenges, Donahoe managed only four years in that post.
