Today, TikTok is launching a new feature that will bring it even closer to streaming services where users discover and play their favorite music-more closely than an app that already is influencing which songs top the charts. The new "Share to TikTok" feature also allows users to share tracks from both Apple Music and Spotify directly in the short-form video app-through posting in their For You feed, their Stories, or DMs. Users shared content may come in the form of tracks, albums, playlists, and much more, where the links will take you back to the music-streaming service. This makes users shift seamlessly from the desired music app to TikTok to delve deeper into said content. In doing this, TikTok has the capacity to hook its users up with their desired music and artists in a much greater capacity than was previously possible. This is something it has been doing anyway because of the nature of its app, wherein music clips are added on the videos of users, where they go on to spearhead trends within TikTok.

Through "Share to TikTok", users will be able to post to TikTok's feed or Stories, using the popular green-screen feature to show the content or taking advantage of Photo Mode, according to TikTok. For Spotify, users can share music, podcasts, or audiobooks by tapping the "Share" button, or they can access the share icon in the bottom-right corner of the "Now Playing" screen.

Another feature available on Apple Music is the Share Sheet, in which users will be prompted to post a video, post a photo, and share the music in a message.

Throughout its development, TikTok's rising popularity endeavored to fuel its ability to transform the music industry in general and how new music is discovered. Songs that trend on TikTok inevitably end up on the Billboard's 100 or Spotify Viral 50, and 67% of app users claim that they look up more of the song they hear on TikTok once they have heard it there. The company's relationship to the music labels, artists, and marketers keeps the app constantly replenished with new releases.

At one point, TikTok parent company ByteDance thought it might exploit the power of TikTok a bit more directly by competing with Apple and Spotify head-on through its very own streaming app, TikTok Music. The service was tested in a few markets, but the company later decided to shut down its global efforts on this front way back in September.

It, instead focuses on driving music fans to its app for discovery. To that effect, TikTok had already launched an "Add to Music App" feature that lets TikTok users save a track they found on the app to their preferred music streaming service.

Today, 'Add to Music App' has expanded into 'Share to TikTok', another example of our continued commitment to music discovery and artist promotion in partnership with music streaming services, said Ole Obermann, Global Head of Music Business Development at TikTok in an announcement. "Since its launch, 'Add To Music App' has already been responsible for hundreds of millions of track saves and billions of streams on our partner music streaming services.". Share to TikTok' completes the user experience, and will be an incredibly effective means of promoting artists and tracks to the TikTok community,\" he said.

The transition may also ease some tension with streamers, who viewed the TikTok service as an eventual competitor. Now TikTok will do the legwork of driving traffic not only into its own apps but also the other way around, rather than poaching from them.

Creative expression is already at the heart of the user and creator experience on TikTok -- and, in fact, is an extremely important tenet for our DSP [music streaming service] partners, too," said Lindsey Kelt Zikry, TikTok's global product partnerships lead, in a statement. Our 'Share To TikTok' integration will enable one-tap sharing from music streaming services into TikTok. It opens up an unprecedented new form of creative expression for users and creators alike, and it gives artists, authors, and podcasters a chance to connect natively with their audience on TikTok.

As for news regarding its social destinations, TikTok is not the only place Spotify has added lately. It also announced a partnership with Meta to share songs from Instagram to Spotify with one tap. Spotify already had integrations with other Meta apps and Snapchat, X, and others.
