This is part of continued efforts to strengthen bonds with the gaming community, as TikTok has just announced that it is an official partner of the gamescom 2024, one of the world's largest conventions on gaming.
TikTok described this partnership in a press statement saying:
Although the size, the world's largest games event, gamescom, attracted more than 320,000 gaming fans last year, this 2024 event will take place in Cologne, Germany, from August 21 to 25. Together with gamescom, TikTok will create unforgettable fan experiences before and during the event: these are the co-branded "Game on LIVE" in-app campaign with creators and video content as exclusive; large-scale out-of-home billboards at gamescom.
The tie-ins for the event will be hosted on TikTok and include IRL activation at gamescom in Germany, live streaming rooms, a dedicated event stage where it is going to host talks and panels, and a Pokémon Go Gym activity.
TikTok will add some in-app tools to assist users in engaging with the event.
Given the wider influence of gaming in online culture, it makes sense for TikTok to magnify its focus on gaming elements wherever possible, and it has been working in various ways to enhance its appeal among creators of gaming content. Last year, it held its first-ever global gaming event and then followed that with a "30 Days of Gaming" showcase this year, which enhanced its focus on gaming-related content.
In addition, TikTok's young users have a strong direct affinity for gaming, with 76 percent of active gamers on the app playing PC or console games weekly. Which also connects to TikTok content. In the app, the #gaming hashtag has been added to more than 45 million posts, while gaming-related live streams are viewed, on average, around 76 million times per day on the platform.
Live content and engagement with trends are the next important steps for TikTok to ensure to enamor gamers with its platform.
