This took TikTok one step forward in its relationship with the music industry, through a heightened in-stream ticket sales partnership with European ticket giant CTS EVENTIM.
Now, creators on TikTok can show ticket sales links any time they post a video by choosing from the events in the CTS EVENTIM database.
A link added will then be tappable for viewers who can then tap through to the CTS EVENTIM website and make a purchase direct from the app.
According to TikTok :
The new ticketing feature provides artists with a powerful means of connecting directly with their fans and promoting their live events worldwide. From inside TikTok, fans can find and buy tickets for an artist's tour dates whenever they view that artist's video.
The deal further adds to TikTok's in-app ticket purchasing options and will see TikTok partner further with Ticketmaster with a ticket sales expansion. This was announced in December last year, which also makes the app have significant linkage both to European and U.S. events. This should go a long way to ensure that artists can have their fans from TikTok connected to live shows.
The study reveals that people are now more likely not only to discover but also share new music content in the app, making TikTok a more important outlet for music promotion. Record labels have kept pace as well, with some even renaming their songs to better fit the TikTok trend, while TikTok itself is now also hosting its own real-life concerts as it looks to double down on its music discovery power, and solidify its industry presence.
At the same time, TikTok finds itself at an impasse with Universal Music, a home to some of the world's biggest artists regarding rights negotiations. That's taken a lot of widely known tracks off the app while the U.S. sell-off bill will spook some who may have considered making the platform a bigger focus for their promotions.
But for now, it is still a good connecting tool for musicians, while ticket sales remain the source of money for most of them.
Enabling such direct links is, therefore a valuable addition which will help keep the musician focused on the app.
