This seems like a strange match.
TikTok announced a new initiative called "Veterans Voices," under which the company will invest $1 million with 10 non-profits that support veterans and their families, according to the company.
Veterans Voices will be targeting one of the most pressing issues affecting this community, namely those in the areas of mental health, affordable housing, and employment. Collectively, these respected organizations will leverage this influential community of creators on TikTok and energize audiences to provide crucial support to those who need it. "
The money will be released in the form of direct cash and TikTok ad credits which the chosen groups will use to once more make more awareness about their projects.
TikTok and veterans. Kind of an interesting juxtaposition, but perhaps only because the word veteran usually evokes visions of an older return to service individual and not those engaging in more recent campaigns.
And apparently, there's a lot of veterans active on the app. According to TikTok, 1 in 3 U.S. veterans report using TikTok monthly.
Which is also why TikTok is launching a new Veterans Creator Spotlight.
These veteran creators, actively educating the users of TikTok on the impacts of service and challenges they face will be part of TikTok's expanded veteran initiative working with partner organizations selected to highlight ongoing fundraising and awareness efforts.
Other partner organizations chosen will be trained to enhance their in-app presence with TikTok. For the users, TikTok is launching the new donation sticker, which allows the users to support the selected groups.
Lastly, TikTok is also announcing a new "SOAR Together Veteran Business Accelerator" program. This will help 15 veteran entrepreneurs through professional coaching and mentorship with the aim of making them thrive in their communities.
Along with this, the company will also pilot a Veterans internship program in summer 2025 and announce a new, paid military leave policy for a year.
It is an interesting thought that TikTok can play a key role in highlighting veteran-related groups and causes and connect returned service communities.
Which, at the same time, also ensures that you have more younger users who know what they'll be sacrificing and what the effects are on their personal life, too. In this regard, it's an important initiative and will be interesting to see how TikTok can help raise awareness about military service and get people connected to more information.
