Within 22 hours, GTA 6 first trailer has scored 85 million views, breaking the record on YouTube for most views of a MrBeast video in 24 hours. Of course, that ranking does not include music videos; hype for this much-anticipated game may break past those records as well — currently, the most viewed YouTube video in 24 hours is actually a music video: it is the K-Pop phenomenon BTS' song "Butter," which 108 million people viewed in this timespan.

This is a decade of pent-up excitement for Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6). The last game in the franchise was released more than 10 years ago, in September 2013. Grand Theft Auto V is recognized by Guinness World Records for breaking the record of "highest revenue generated by an entertainment product in 24 hours," with $815.7 million on release day from selling 11.21 million copies. It is currently the second-best-selling video game of all time, falling only behind Minecraft.

Rockstar Games, the publisher of the Grand Theft Auto franchise, had set a Tuesday morning trailer drop. That trailer leaked on X, formerly Twitter, one day early. The company simply dropped the trailer and had the leaked one taken down.

Our trailer leaked so watch this on YouTube, Rockstar noted on X; that X post itself boasts 1.1 million likes and 82 million views.

Aside from music videos, MrBeast last year became the most-viewed YouTuber ever in a day. The stunt philanthropist's August video, in which he had contestants from "every country" in the world face off in a series of contests, got 59.4 million views in its first day. Another one of the twenty-five-year-old YouTuber's most popular videos featured him recreating the Netflix hit "Squid Game" (no, no one was harmed in filming). Well, with the nature of Grand Theft Auto, we can only hope that MrBeast does not try to recreate a bank robbery or a prison break.

We will update this post if Grand Theft Auto manages to dethrone the BTS boys from their butter-sculpted throne — in the meantime, here's the trailer for GTA 6, which will be released in 2025.
