Telegram introduces new monetization options for creators on its platform.

Telegram announced on Wednesday that it is adding new ways for creators to make money on the platform. The platform is starting monthly paid subscriptions whereby access is gained through purchase using the app's digital currency, Stars, to an author's extra content.

Content creators are now allowed to create invite links through which users can join a channel in return for a monthly payment in Stars. The idea of the feature is to let creators charge for extra or early access to content similar to Patreon.

Creators will be able to price their content and convert Stars into Toncoin cryptocurrency rewards or subsidized ads. Telegram takes a cut from transactions in Stars, though the company hasn't revealed the percentage.

Telegram also launched Star Reactions that let users directly support their favorite content creators. This Star Reactions is similar to the feature on YouTube's "Super Thanks" feature and on X's Tips. For Reactions, all stars they receive goes 100% to creators.

The new features advance upon Telegram's existing endeavors in helping creators monetize the platform. Last month, the company began to let creators share paid content with their channels, and a few months prior to this, Telegram launched ad revenue sharing with creators.

Today’s announcement comes as Telegram reached 950 million active users last month, and aims to cross the 1 billion mark this year. Earlier this year, Telegram founder Pavel Durov said the company expects to hit profitability next year and is considering going public.
