That was its maiden voyage into an AI future, when it unveiled the feature: AI DJ. This current app brings its users personalized song selection directly into a user's ears, or at least that's the promise. Now, they are creating an alternative version of the DJ that will speak Spanish.
Tech veteran and reverse engineer Chris Messina looked into the application's code and spotted mentions of the new AI DJ. There, he found indications that the language of the AI DJ would be changeable by users from English to Spanish. The AI DJ is also mentioned to have the name under the label "DJ Livi." According to code, this AI DJ would appear to Mexican users.
Assuming it does, DJ Livi will be the first language expansion of this feature, as its existing AI DJ - DJ X - launched across the world last year but only in English.
Reached for comment, Spotify did not dispute the findings.
"At Spotify, we regularly perform many tests designed to help users tell their own stories through the music they love," a company representative said. "Some of those end up paving the path for our broader user experience and others serve only as important learnings. We have no further news to share on future plans at this time," they added.
In other words, Spotify isn't prepared to announce the specific launching of a Spanish-speaking AI DJ yet because, for the time being, the feature remains an experiment. It makes sense that Spotify would focus more on that demographic since Spanish ranks after English, Mandarin, and Hindi worldwide. Finally, Spanish is spoken very widely in the United States, that is one of the important markets for Spotify, with over 42 million people claiming to have it at home. Evidently, anyone could turn their AI DJ to Spanish if the function were to roll out.
Even an AI DJ isn't the only new testing of AI technologies that Spotify has conducted. The company also experimented with using AI in making host-read ads for podcasts as well as in making personalized AI playlists you can build using prompts. Spotify CEO Daniel Ek also teased plans on using AI across its business in areas like personalization, ads, and podcast summaries.
