It will expand the new "Footsteps" feature to all iOS users this week, coming after a limited rollout to the subscribers of Snapchat+.
The feature, as confirmed by the company on Monday, uses Snap Map to track people's travels and show how much of the world one has explored, according to a TechCrunch report.
So when the users first log into Footsteps, it fills previous travel activity with information culled from snaps that they have saved in Memories.
Later, this feature will draw on live location data to display individualized travel footprints in the map.
Utilizing Footprints requires Ghost Mode in Snap Map be disabled. Other than that, the feature is private by default and can only be viewed by the user who has tracked those movements; other users have options to disable tracking of or delete their travel data anytime through their profile settings.
In its quest to continue improving Snap Map, Snapchat is gaining an advantage over its rivals, Instagram and TikTok. The latter two do not have a feature like this, though Instagram has supposedly announced that it is working on a "Friends Map."
Footprints are finally coming to Android confirmed by Snapchat.
