Snapchat just released a new AR activation for International Women's Day, celebrating and recognizing eight prominent female figures from French history.
Landmarker lenses will be available in Paris, Lyon, Marseille, Bordeaux, Lille, Strasbourg, Metz, and Nantes that highlight these influential women leaders who have contributed a great deal but whose contribution hasn't been as strong or potent as their male counterpart's.
As stated by Snap:
"While as many women as men have transformed the course of French history, the majority of French urban sculptures commemorate only males. Snap's AR Studio has thus imagined AR statues of women who have changed the course of French history in politics, arts, philosophy, and military affairs. These AR statues are built alongside their counterpart male statues, showing them appreciation of the deeds and achievements of these giant women and acknowledgment of their involvement in women's rights and their status in French society.
This is an innovative way of using AR features to emphasize hidden features of history and, for Snap's primarily younger crowd, more depth and context.
It also provides a potential for the possibility of adding to reality using AR while bridging understanding gaps that may have previously existed in the sense. It relates to some key celebrations during the day while engaging with audiences in newer ways.
Eventually, it will help in offering all these things as an extension of its AR features with a different range of add-ons enhancing your view of the real world through the digital enhancements that build up on the actual one while creating a new means of connecting.
Users will be able to access the Lenses by approaching the correct statues of male figures, pointing the Snap camera at the figure, and then activating the '8th of March, 8 women Lens', which is in the Lens carousel.
