As the roll-out of the vaccine continues, and we look forward to a post-pandemic environment, students are becoming increasingly excited about getting back to school and spending time among friends as part of the education process.
I mean, no one enjoyed online school. Not students, not parents- definitely not teachers.
Social interaction, which is perhaps the largest casualty of this period, has affected everyone, and it might be even more profound in the case of young people who are still in the early stages of discovering themselves. Such daily interactions shape the personality as well as the outlook of youngsters.
The return to IRL school also brings with it new shopping behaviors, and this week, Snapchat has shared some new insight into how its users are planning for the coming school year, and how they're shopping as a result.
Which could help in your campaign planning - here's a look at the key notes.
Firstly, Snapchat states that the return to seeing people in real life will call for a big bump in fashion spend, with more than half of Snapchatters looking to buy new clothes in preparation.
That makes perfect sense: you can't be carrying on wearing your sweatpants when you're going out in public.
Well, I mean, you can, but there are obviously some considerations within that type of chic. It may communicate the personal insight that you'd want, in some cases at least.
Snapchat also comments that more than a third of Snapchatters intend to book tickets to travel, gear and accessories for a car, recreation and hobby-based equipment, and new tech gadgets and accessories ahead of the next round, giving quite a list of added marketing and outreach considerations.
With sports also returning, that opens another key fashion and accessory consideration.
According to Snap:
"Snapchatters begin preparing for practices and starting to shop for the sports season a few weeks leading up to the first practice. Shoes, sports apparel, and equipment are among the top things on their shopping lists, and they're taking Snapchat along on their shopping adventures.
Given its focus on more intimate friendships, Snapchat often plays a key role in influencing people's shopping decisions. There is much to consider how these elements may factor into your marketing plan and, especially when connecting with students, this back to school season.
And, of course, there are many, many other factors involved here, but Snapchat's notes are a good reminder of some of the key elements that are set to come into focus, which may be helpful in guiding your planning.
