Snap would like to make the company's Snap Map even more: a new 'Layers' toggle that will shift the focus of the map display on choice.
Snap Layers can be found at the top right of the Snap Map display, which allows presenting options by the user on the map.
The first one, 'Memories', will feature some of your best Snap moments over the last 12 months, depicted as it were in reference to the places where they occurred. 'Explore', on the other hand, will present public Snaps from different places, showing you more of what is going on around the world.
More capacity to use the Snap Map for other purposes is provided with variable options; this could get more users engaging with the display, both in retelling past experiences and more knowledge of one's surroundings as well as connecting with friends and discovering local businesses.
Snap's working on more layers to add in, including 'Partnered Layers', which will enable brands to sponsor certain map listings to help promote their business.
Snap first announced Layers back in May at its partner summit; this explained that soon companies will be able to add data directly to their own map. It is now shifting into the next stage, and with more than 250 million Snapchatters daily interacting with Snap Map, it could be a good fit for promoting your business and connecting through a more dedicated, less cluttered overlay on the screen.
It will be interesting to see whether that changes user engagement with the Map, and what other options Snap could look to add in to boost interaction.
The new Layers toggle from Snap is rolling out starting today.
