Snapchat is adding some new personalization options for Snapchat+ subscribers, including custom, Sims-style houses on the Snap Map, new ways to interact with your digital pets, rapidly expiring Snaps, and much more.
Snap will offer subscribers the ability to create their own custom digital house that will appear on the Snap Map.
Snapchat+ subscribers will be able to create a version of their house that will appear to friends on the map when location sharing is live.
As per Snap:
"There are basically endless ways you can customise your crib, whether you're after a super realistic look or a whimsical candy castle."
Now, you can now dream home design on the map for representing your actual location that could be a good customization for those connections.
It is also expanding the pet category of Bitmoji. Your pets will now appear by your Bitmoji's side while you are typing in conversations with your friends.
Snapchat added AI-generated pets for Snapchat+ subscribers last January and is now looking to push them to be active across a wider range of in-app surfaces.
Snap will also be rolling out "lightning quick Snaps, "which will allow users to create stories with new expiration options lasting .10, .25 and .50 seconds".
These are fun add-ons, which ought probably to resonate very well with Snap's core users-this is the principal manner in which Snapchat has managed to make its subscription service a success. That understanding of its audience allows Snap to create products that are more in line with the nature of the service and what resonates with power users-that is to say, those most likely to pay.
That's why Snapchat+ now boasts 9 million paid subscribers, far outpacing X Premium. Instead of trying to paywall existing features - and turning its blue checkmarks into some sort of badge of allegiance to Elon Musk - Snapchat has hitched its wagon to what its user community most cares about.
Other platforms looking to drive subscriptions would do well to take notes.
On the non-Snapchat+ side, Snap's also added a new "live mirror" in its Bitmoji Builder, in order to make it easier to create a depiction that more closely resembles your face, while it's also launched a new "My 5-Year Old Self" Lens.
Snap continues to build engaging tools that align with its audience, and reinforce its value among its user base.
