New in the latest feature update for Snapchat include additional Halloween-themed activations, along with lock screen integration on iOS and "Footsteps" to track travels on the Snap Map.
Snap is assembling a range of new Halloween Lenses and Bitmoji outfits to assist Snapchatters in getting into the holiday spirit.
you can digitally dress yourself up as a scary clown, or a witch, among other Halloween activations.
In other news, Snap is offering Halloween costumes for your Bitmoji character:
"Your Bitmoji can get in on the fun, too, with new costumes including a witch, princess, a festive onesie and more. Or, dress your Bitmoji as your favorite characters from Mean Girls or Yellowstone, in partnership with Paramount.".
The Bitmoji characters, however, are still the most loved, with more than a billion depictions created. And it could even be much more important in the future if Snap could integrate such virtual depictions into avatars for coming metaverse-aligned experiences.
On a similar line, Snapchat is also introducing new stickers of Bitmoji, which are also catching up at a good pace.
Snapchat says that Bitmoji Stickers have been shared over 210 billion times, and again, as Snap looks to build the best virtual representations of people for expanded application, additions like this make sense.
Snapchat is also rolling out "Footsteps" on Snap Map, which will show you where you've traveled in your hometown and travel destinations.
There, you can see the tints on the map: it is your expanded footprint, based on your travels.
Snapstreaks appear only to you, with the conception in mind that maybe it could help Snapchat users to branch out and move through new areas of their town while tracing past experiences.
Lastly, Snapchat has also added an option of allowing Snap to become the default camera app on your phone.
The new option, available in iOS 18, allows you to move the Snapchat app to that empty space where the camera shortcut often goes on your lock screen. That's another way of possibly forcing users to publish natively onto Snap, and honestly, it's amazing Apple has let that happen. But again, Snap's always been treated pretty well by Apple, which is something I have often thought might translate into them both working together on AR glasses or AR tools down the road. All of this is just speculation, though, and I've got nothing that suggests this actually is going to happen, aside from the two companies have very closely worked on past AR projects.
Some interesting new additions here for Snap could help users get more active this season.
