Snapchat introduces an AR-to-purchase feature for Halloween costumes.

It is an interesting thing Snapchat is doing with Halloween this year: allowing users to not only try on potential Halloween costumes through AR inside the app but also then buy any outfit they've tried on digitally right off the display.
this year, after having tried on an AR costume through Snap's full-body scan option, you will then be able to tap through and buy that same outfit in real life.

According to Snap :
"From Oct 11th, Snapchatters will be able to try-on, share with friends, and buy costumes of some of their favorite, and nostalgic, movie and TV characters including, Hocus Pocus, Squid Game, Stranger Things, Power Rangers, and more.".

Snap will be teaming up with Disguise Costumes to facilitate the AR-to-purchase process, and all the costume options available as AR will be listed on the Disguise profile in the app. Users will also be able to find the full listing by searching for 'Disguise Costumes' or by searching for each character/movie/TV show as well.

It's an interesting evolution of Snap's Halloween approach, and it also marks a big step in using AR as a path to purchase in the app. Snap has been developing its AR shopping tools for years, through new ad options, try-on tools, and more. But this seasonal, topical event tie-in is a bigger push, with a bunch of costume options that will likely be super popular heading into Halloween, which in turn could drive more direct shopping activity in the app.

You can see how these types of event and season tie-ins have huge potential for further similar efforts, with Snap making direct display and shopping capabilities available for integrated campaigns.

And with some 80% of Snapchatters planning to use the app during Halloween, it's a big campaign, which will focus on the potential that AR hold for marketing in the application.

Number one reason shoppers use AR: to shop, said Ipsos, and this could thus be a significant opportunity to tap into that interest.

Definitely worth watching for marketers, as a signal of the potential of AR promotions.
