Snapchat introduces a desktop version of the app, initially accessible to Snapchat+ subscribers.

Ten years since its launch Snapchat finally unveils the web version of the application.
Snapchat for the web-first was only available to Snapchat+ subscribers and only in some regions. It will enable users to send messages and make video calls straight from their desktop computers. Another way to interact with your Snap contacts, of course.

Open up your laptop and head to web.snapchat.com in Chrome to start a call or pick up where chats left off on mobile. With more than 100 million Snapchatters using our voice and video calling each month on average, we're excited to bring another new way for our community to pick up conversations on their computers where they're working, learning, and browsing.

And certainly, that 'working' piece is probably the real motivator here -- with so many people now wanting to work from home in the wake of the pandemic, Snapchat sees more opportunity maximized by creating a separate web app.

That and its audience is getting older and by making it even easier to link into the discussion can therefore drive new usage behaviors in the app.

Other new options accompanying the web interface include Chat Reactions and Chat Reply.
Unlike the traditional app, however, your Snaps will delete after 24 hours, and web views only count as in-app opens of a message.

Snap is also going to eventually roll the Lenses into the format, as it looks to enable more functionality.
As noted above, it might be a pretty and amusing way to increase Snap usage among paying Snapchat+ subscribers in the United States, UK, and Canada.

Snap's Snapchat+, launched last month, is its Twitter Blue-like subscription option, which grants users access to a range of new tools and features in development for $3.99 per month.

Many of these, like Twitter Blue, aren't particularly appealing to mass audiences, but maybe if Snap throws more stuff along these lines into the subscription option, that might make it a more interesting proposition.

Either way, Snapchat on web will be available to everyone, while those in Australia, and New Zealand can get on their early access option quickly through this link.

It's only available now through Chrome, but Snap is also looking to add support for more web browsers, which will eventually facilitate expanded opportunity to engage with friends via Snap.
