Snapchat revealed several new features to stimulate more engagement within the app, along with making its web-based version accessible to all users, rather than just those signed up for its Snapchat+ service.
Snap is also launching new Chat Shortcuts in an effort to streamline the management of unread messages and making it easier to reply to Stories.
There will also be new chat shortcuts, in light blue at the top of your Chat screen, which will give you another way to filter your messages, and find key prompts.
According to Snap:
"Our Shortcuts will also remind you if you owe a reply and show you when birthdays are coming up, so you never miss someone's special day or leave a friend on read."
It may be a rather convenient means of tracking your conversations, especially if you have several going at once.
Snap is also introducing new Question Stickers for Stories along similar lines as the option already available in Instagram and elsewhere.
And coupled with the latest iOS 16 updates, Snapchat is adding new Lock Screen Widgets that will make it easier to receive your notifications and enter Snap chats directly from your home screen.
First available July to Snapchat+ subscribers alone, the web version lets you send messages, have video calls and voice calls-done. Basicially all the core connecting elements of the app will now be accessible via your desktop PC.
Snapchat for Web also lets you use some Snap Lenses when video calling.
With this increase in availability, it will be easier for users to stay in touch with friends through Snap, in more ways, and may be especially helpful for the growing cohort of people who work at home.
A constant concern, as its user base ages, the better it grows, is becoming a growing consideration for Snap, and an expansion web version is, in that sense, recognition of this, by seeking to be better aligned with audience shifts.
