Snapchat has introduced new 3D body scan lenses for Halloween.

Snapchat has debuted the first batch of 3D body scan Lenses, expanding upon its body-tracking capability where the application can move and change along with the user's movements on screen.
the new Lenses reacts to the motion of the subject within the frame, having digital characters or costumes align to what the person is doing. Snapchat states that it's a first-of-a-kind AR tool, whereby Lenses will work across the two alignments of camera positions - the front-facing and the rear-facing alignment.
The new Lenses track 18 joints on the human body, and apply 3D models to follow the movements of the person, or people, within the camera's view.
It reminds me of the full body tracking that EDM artist Skrillex used in his Mothership tour many years back, which enabled him to project giant 3D characters onto a screen at the back of the stage.
Now, Snap allows Snapchat users to virtually put on almost the same from the safety of their phones, and Snap is leveraging the option to allow people to virtually don different Halloween costumes from a collection to enable people to be part of the event if they cannot be part of an actual public event.

The new progress is being used in advertising as well, with Canada icon Tim Horton's launching sponsored body-tracking Lens that helps users to turn themselves into a box of Timbits.
It's a little shaky, but you get the idea - and new option can open up a whole new world of fun, new brand tie-ins and opportunities - and even new AR try on tools to better know what you might look like in a new item of clothing or similar.

And with eCommerce accelerating incredibly fast back in 2020, that might really be a big deal. Right now, Snapchat has only just begun to touch on what it might really be able to do using these new options, so expect to see a slew of updates and evolutions coming soon.

Snap Lenses with new 3D body scan options launch today in Snapchat.
