Snapchat is introducing some new generative A.I. elements into its Lens creation tools, which are a significant step toward democratizing AR creation and facilitating all-new types of experiences in digital environments.
Snap is introducing its new generative A.I. Lens tool that lets you digitally transport you into any scene you can describe.
It's simply a bit messy, like lots of generative A.I. images layered over each other, but technically it's a massive step forward in making real-time rendering of A.I.-generated visuals that one can interact with.
Snap states :
"This is one breakthrough in running GenAI models in real time on mobile devices, a result of our team's inventions to optimize faster and more performant GenAI techniques. Our researcher-engineer team is always innovating-making GenAI faster and lighter so that our Snapchat community can create and communicate with friends on the go.".
And while it looks a little jerky and unstable now, the fact that this is even possible is another step to making real-time creation of AR happen once again through simplified prompts.
And only it will get better. And the possibilities are massive with this type of development.
Snap also adds generative A.I. prompts to Lens Studio, which will let AR creators build custom models based on conversational queries.
This has been one of the biggest hurdles in AR development, as one needs a certain level of technical know-how to really assemble anything particularly innovative in AR. Snap is again taking a step towards democratizing AR creation so that more users can create even more interactive and engaging AR experiences within the app.
Which, of course, will also eventually lead into VR, too, in the sense of allowing anyone to come up with their own immersive VR experience from just speaking it into existence. Huge potential here, and it'll be interesting to see just how helpful Snap's new AR prompts can be.
Updates are part of Snap's broader Lens Studio 5.0 release, which also includes significant improvements to Snap's Lens creation process.
The rebuilt Lens Studio is productive, modular, and fast. In addition to a plugin system that empowers developers to extend the capabilities of Editor to suit their needs, it's also a better environment for team development and serious creation, with deep support for JavaScript, TypeScript, Version Control, and package management.
Snapchat's Lens Studio 5.0 is now live, offering more space for creators to create new experiences within Snap's tools.
These are big updates which may get overlooked but not underplayed when it comes to potential impact. The ability to enable easy, simple prompts for creating immersive AR experiences is tremendous, and it could usher in an entirely new age of AR creation from a wide range of creators.
And for brands, it could also open up entirely new avenues to create experiences that are all your own.
