Snap Introduces Camera Extension for Chrome

Hey, you remember how you attached that goofy AR filter to your view, via the PC camera, through Snapchat's standalone app "Snap Camera," and brightened up that interminable procession of Zoom meetings during lockdown, right?

Well, have another go at it, folks. You can be the funny guy/gal, for at least a bit.

Snap Camera, for instance, was a major video call add-on-the company promised to offer an array of Snap Lenses you could overlay on your video playback screen.
Snap is cutting cost in broad ways though and shut down the separate Snap Camera app last January, removing the option to appear in your Zoom calls as a potato.

But now, you can do it again thanks to Snap's rolling out of a new Chrome extension that effectively does the same thing .
Now available in public preview, the Snapchat Camera for Chrome extension will let users use selected Snap Lenses via their PC camera .
According to Snap

You can now enjoy Snap AR Lenses to elevate your webcam experience. Whether you're in professional meetings, catching up with friends, or live streaming, our extension brings the creativity of Snap AR Lenses directly to your webcam.

So now, you will virtually get a chance to wear that frog, potato, or axolotl again that would lighten up those video meetings where you appear against the same background day by day.

You can also add Lenses which you have created and shared. So, you can create your very own complete look.

Okay it does take a bit of take and patience to learn how to build a lens in Snap's Lens Studio. But hey, it is another option that you might want to consider, which just could make video calls even more fun.

The sole cautionary note there would be that the novelty factor would wear off pretty fast, and you'd also want to make sure that you are thinking of the tone for each particular meeting before busting in wearing a rainbow clown wig.

But for all those who loved those old Snap Camera tools, well, they're back once again.
