Snap has launched a new AR guide for administering CPR in honor of World Restart a Heart Day.

Snapchat continues developing the potential and practical value of AR, this time through an interpower with the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies on a new AR CPR overview that will assist users in guiding people through key lessons in life-saving CPR techniques.
The new AR experience also comes with an overview of the administration of CPR, coupled with quiz elements and other details to educate people on the process.

According to Snap,

This new education AR experience will let you learn about CPR and take you through a true-to-life example where you can walk around the people performing the techniques, answer quizzes to test your knowledge, and even take part in interactive games that help explain the rhythm of doing chest compressions.

The initiative was launched on the back of World Restart a Heart Day (10/16) with the aim of increasing community awareness and education on CPR and Automatic External Defibrillators.
Less than 20% of people actually end up giving what might be life saving first aid despite 7 out of 10 cardiac arrests happening in front of witnesses.

This new AR experience seeks to create greater awareness of what is needed, which may aid in educating even more people about the process, or could even function as an in-the-moment overlay when necessary.

It's interesting to see Snap continue its efforts to advance the use of AR in several areas, including shopping, art display, and now health.

Of course, many large corporations are experimenting with using AR for similar ends. Meta, for instance, this week detailed how its future AR glasses can be used to assist people with visual impairments as they navigate their surroundings.
But that is all still in the future, while Snap is making that future a reality, and moving AR forward now, through the camera of the app.

Will that also give Snap a lead if it does end up releasing an AR version of the Spectacles device?

It's very hard to say what will happen once real AR-enabled glasses are commercially available, but Snap remains a key leader in the space, and innovations like this help keep it at the forefront, which could bode well for its future.
