Shazam now lets you identify music even when you're wearing headphones, the Apple-owned company announced this week. All you need to do is open the app, check for the headphone icon to confirm your headphones are connected and then start identifying music playing around you or within apps like TikTok and YouTube. The new update works with both wired and Bluetooth headphones.
Suppose you are streaming a video on TikTok with headphones on. You hear a song you like coming through in the video. Open Shazam, click to Shazam, and then go back to TikTok. It is going to pause your music for literally one second; then you will be able to get back to the Shazam app to see the name and artist of the song.
On the other hand, can you think of when you are sporting headphones in a coffeeshop and you want to know what song is currently playing in the café? Thanks to Shazam, now you can do that while retaining the headphones.
It's also worth noting that users have always been able to recognize songs playing in apps in the first place, since Shazam released the capacity to identify songs on YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok last year. But up until this point, you couldn't if you were wearing headphones.
Shazam was founded in 2002, and Apple acquired the app for $400 million in 2017. The app has more than 300 million monthly users worldwide.
Shazam is now able to identify songs on YouTube, Instagram and TikTok through iOS.
