Meta announced today that Roblox is coming to Meta Quest VR headsets, with an open beta available on App Lab in the coming weeks. Roblox is said to be one of the major players in the metaverse space and is reportedly launching sometime this year on Meta Quest VR headsets.
The Quest version of Roblox will be available to players on Quest 2 and Quest Pro. It will also play on the not yet released Quest 3.
Meta claims that the open beta allows Roblox's developer community to optimize their existing games for Quest and to build new ones for VR while receiving feedback from the Quest community. The developers will be able to test and iterate on their VR experiences before the full launch of Roblox to the Meta Quest Store.
"Roblox is automatically publishing some experiences that use default player scripts to support VR devices," Meta wrote in a blog post. "They've found that those experiences typically run well in VR without modifications, so they're seeding the Roblox VR library with great content from day one.". And because Roblox is cross-platform, you'll be able to connect, play and hang out with friends on Xbox, iOS, Android, and desktop computing — helping to make VR more social than ever before.
Truly, today's announcement does not come as a surprise. Back in 2021, Roblox CEO Dave Baszucki said during a call with investors that Quest makes "perfect sense for Roblox." Baszucki's comment implied the company planned to make available Roblox on the Meta Quest in the future.
Though Roblox works with a number of VR headsets – Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, among others – today's player must connect a PC to a VR headset in order to play. The Quest edition of Roblox should be much faster to load and much easier to get to, given the fact that you may soon download it from the Meta Quest Store directly on your VR device.
Users over the age of 13 will be able to enjoy the Roblox on Quest launch. Meta, however, claims it will reveal further details about the experience now that open beta is getting closer.
Meta Quest 3: $499 - Fall Launch The Quest 3 is priced $100 more than its predecessor from back in 2020. According to Meta, the headset sports high-res color mixed reality and is 40% thinner than the Quest 2. It does boast the latest Snapdragon, in addition to higher-resolution displays and 2x GPU performance.
