Reddit is launching the roll out of its AI-powered post translation feature that will allow even more Redditors in more regions to communicate.
"We launched a new machine translation feature to redditors in France earlier this year, and to continue to bring Reddit to even more people around the world today we're starting to roll out machine translation to redditors in more than 35 additional countries.".
Coming soon, Reddit will enable translation by the process for posts from Brazilian and Spanish users, which can be accessed through the post menu options on every update.
The following weeks will see Reddit expanding translations to Germany, Italy, the Philippines, and countries around Latin America.
"This feature will work wherever you access Reddit: across mobile web, our apps, and desktop.".
With this, Reddit is looking to allow users to have participation in the discussions within subreddits in whatever language they wish but auto-translating that into the local language of the community.
Reddit is also adding indicators on translated posts, and the option to show the original language so you get the full context originally written.
It's a clever play on using AI and machine learning processes to extend access, but YouTube and Meta are also in the process of rolling out AI translation tools in much the same vein.
Reddit is also now looking to use AI to summarize discussions on subreddits, improve its ad tools, as it continues to build new capabilities into the app.
It's using a balanced, intelligent approach to AI adoption that's aligned with how people use platforms, and as it continues to grow, Reddit does seem to be making the right plays on this front.
