With warmer months around the corner in the U.S., Pinterest has produced a new analysis of growing travel trends in the app, which could prove useful to marketers looking to tap into holiday-themed opportunities.
While other social media may get more attention, it still remains an important destination for travel-based research.
According to Pinterest:
From more than one billion travel-related searches and over 10 billion travel saves in a year, Pinterest is riddled with inspiration for making the most of your next adventure. Among 8 in 10 weekly users who turn to Pinterest when planning their summer escapades, searches for "travel vision board" have risen 210 percent and for "packing guide" 480 percent since last year, as travelers curate bucket lists and prep for unforgettable journeys.
So what are the travel trends for 2024?
Of course, according to Pinterest, it's "adventure travel": search for "Scuba diving photography" grows 60%, "Mountaineering" grows 40%, "Adventure camping" grows 44%, and "Caving" grows 40%.
And water parks:
Quiet and solitary journeys also became in fashion, like "Glamping style" (+260%), "Wellness retreat style" (+90%), "Mountain cabin" (+180%), and "National park" (+250%) were in the limelight.
According to Pinterest, Pinners are interested in a mysterious place, which is visited, while searching, "Haunted places" (+155%), "Ancient cities" (+75%), and "Places on earth that don't feel like a real place" (+240%).
Road trips have also been popular, and could present marketing opportunities, with searches like "Comfy road trip outfit" (+250%), "What do bring on a road trip" (+66%) and "Road trip snacks" (+65%).
Lastly, Pinterest has also highlighted some of the most popular destination-related searches at present:
"Lifestyle in London" (+340%)
South African food (+320%)
Party in Santorini (+300%)
Goa nightlife (+270%)
Summer in Brazil (+250%)
Bali vibes (+195%)
History of Myanmar (+170%)

Not sure that all these relate to travelling specifically, but some added insight into the Pin trend nonetheless.
Some really useful notes, which could help to inform your approaches in marketing for the holiday season, either on or off Pinterest.
In fact, though, within Pinterest specifically, they might be particularly valuable, and if you are looking to connect with holidaymakers, these are just some of the key trends of note.
