Pinterest is enhancing its in-app collage features by introducing two new interactive options: "Collage Remixing" and "Collage Sharing."
The collage functionality was launched last September, inspired by the success of Pinterest's standalone "Shuffles" collage app. This feature allows users to digitally cut elements from any Pin and blend them with other cutouts to craft unique, interactive images.
In this example, once items are incorporated into a collage, they remain individually recognizable as products, offering a creative avenue that also aids in promoting items within the app.
Now, users will have additional ways to enhance these multi-object creations.
Starting with Collage Remixing, this feature allows users to collaborate by building upon or editing existing collages, effectively expanding the original design.
As shown in this example, users can recreate collages, adding their own spin while crediting the original creator with a tag in the lower left corner.
This feature could significantly enhance collage sharing, allowing users to easily repurpose visually appealing creations made by others and share them with their networks.
Additionally, improved collage sharing capabilities now enable Pinners to download their collages as videos, which can then be shared across various platforms.
While the Pin links won’t be clickable in these video clips, they will include Pinterest watermarks to direct viewers back to the original content. Users sharing on Instagram Stories can also add custom stickers that link back to the Pinterest post.
These updates are designed to boost engagement with the collage format, which has resonated particularly well with Gen Z users.
Pinterest's collages have gained such popularity that the platform is also exploring a collage ad option, and Instagram has taken note, testing its own version of collage formats.
This recognition is a significant compliment in social media development.
Therefore, it makes sense for Pinterest to keep evolving this format and experimenting with new ways to enhance user engagement.
