Pinterest is enhancing its in-app collage tools with two new interactive options: “Collage Remixing” and “Collage Sharing.”
The collage feature was introduced last September and was inspired by the success of Pinterest's standalone “Shuffles” collage app. This allows users to digitally cut out elements from any Pin and combine them with other cutouts to create engaging interactive images.
Now, users will have additional ways to enhance these multi-object creations.
Starting with remixing, Collage Remixes will allow users to collaborate by building upon or editing existing collages within the app, providing an opportunity to expand on the original design.
Users will be able to recreate collages to put their own spin on existing designs, with a tag in the lower left corner indicating the original creator of the collage.
This feature provides a simple way to enhance collage sharing, allowing users to effectively repurpose appealing creations made by others and share them with their connections.
Additionally, improved collage sharing will enable Pinners to download their collages as videos, which they can then share across other platforms.
While the Pin links won’t be active in these video clips, they will include Pinterest watermarks to direct viewers back to the original content. Additionally, users sharing on Instagram Stories will have the option to include custom stickers that link back to the original Pinterest post.
These updates are designed to boost engagement with the collage format, which has become particularly popular among Gen Z users.
In fact, Pinterest's collages have gained such traction that the platform is also working on a collage ad option, and Instagram has started experimenting with its own collage format.
This trend is a strong endorsement in social media development terms.
Therefore, it makes sense for Pinterest to continue evolving this format and exploring new ways to enhance user engagement.
