Do you pin on Pinterest using your desktop PC?
Though the majority of the app's usage comes through mobile devices, the newly public company is looking to get as much out of it as possible with an integrated Windows 10 app that adds Pinterest to your 'start' menu options, with users being able to browse with more ease on PCs.
As described by Pinterest:
As we strive for ways to help Pinners find inspiration across all interests, locations and platforms, we knew we also needed to improve the experience for Windows. Accessing Pinterest from desktop requires using a browser, often with multiple tabs open; such can be a painful experience. To create a more seamless experience, today we’re officially introducing the Windows app for Pinterest on Windows 10. With Pinterest readily accessible from the start menu & taskbar and deeper integration with Windows, Pinners can now browse with a more enhanced and engaging experience.”
That will give users another method through which to navigate the platform and search for suitable product matches. In addition, because Pinterest is now achieving most of its growth outside the US, and considering that this market may be far more desktop-focused than the one in the US, it seems sensible for the platform to enhance its functionality for desktop-oriented users.
Indeed, according to Pinterest's first performance report, the platform is now up to 291 million monthly active users, of which 206 million come from outside the US. The platform saw 29% growth in these global markets for the most recent quarter, as opposed to 6% growth in America - so while it may seem like mobile should be the key focus, and a Windows integration is a little outdated, the focus is likely on markets beyond those we’re immediately familiar with.
But it can obviously be handy for users in western regions also - as you can see in the shot above, the new app adds Pinterest into to your main menu options, making it easy to click in and check out the latest Pins.
