This could potentially be a good update if you want to amplify your presence on Pinterest - although that is a bit of a cheeky feature that comes with some additional caveats.
This week, Pinterest has released the ability to download your Idea Pins for sharing to other apps, complete with a Pinterest watermark.
Here's what it means, as explained by Pinterest:
"All users, starting today, can download and share published Idea Pins on social channels including Facebook and Instagram. Those Idea Pins will be downloaded as a watermarked video that stitches all the Idea Pin pages together, and it ends with an end card that displays the creator's name and username."
Sharing your Idea Pins to other social apps is pretty easy: you can just select the "FBStories" or "IG Stories" icon from the share menu, and it will begin a download tailored to each app, then opening either with the video ready to go in the upload flow, though you can download the clip and upload it to TikTok too.
Cool, huh, and great for some extra Pin promotion. Maybe.
What I perceive the problem in this is that Instagram already sanctions Reels uploads which include a TikTok watermark to stop people simply cutting and pasting TikTok content. In fact, Instagram says that any watermarked video will cop a reach hit, and while that's Reels-specific, it wouldn't surprise me at all if IG, and Facebook, have the same restriction on Stories uploads as well.
That could be another factor for consideration, but even with some lost reach, it may still be worth a shot if you are thinking about new ways to promote your Pinterest feed.
Pinterest has taken some hits in actives recently as COVID restrictions lighten and more folks move back into in-store shopping. However, at 430 million actives, with all still largely focused on product discovery, it is an important platform for eCommerce brands-and Idea Pins have proven popular so far with users.
You may want to try it if you're looking to give your Pin presence a boost.
Sharing and downloading of Idea Pin is now open to everyone.
