Pinterest has rolled out a new update that allows users to download and share their Idea Pins across other social networking sites. In short, as of now that means Facebook and Instagram.
This is a big update for those creative Pinterest users with large audiences on Facebook or Instagram. Pinners can easily repurpose their Story-like content with multiple communities by sharing their creations across those platforms.
The native publishing format on Pinterest, Idea Pins, was first introduced to creators in 2020 and rolled out globally in 2021. Idea Pins are a multi-page canvas to share unique ideas, tutorials, passions with others. They last forever and, as such, are an avenue for creators to grow their audience on Pinterest. Also, in the "Watch" tab of Pinterest, Pinners can continue to get a feed of Idea Pins full-screen to scroll and engage with, as well as newly surfacing content from brands and creators, meaning Idea Pins remain discoverable for everyone. And with this option now to share an Idea Pin, a creator's original content on Pinterest can reach even more audiences on and off Pinterest.
Even this might be useful to brands and creators looking for better tools to create stories.
Since Idea Pins were rolled out last year, Pinterest has really just continually improved the tool through various new video and photo editing options. Some of the many available options for use with the Idea Pin creation tool include:
Recording and editing video content up to 20 pages
Recording voice over so creators can add their personal voice
Selection of music from Epidemic Sound
Transition functions in Ghost mode (great for those before-and-afters!)
Detailed pages for instructions or ingredients
Interactive elements, people tagging and stickers
Multi-draft save so Creators can publish more ideas
Export options to share content beyond Pinterest
How To Share Your Idea Pins on Facebook and Instagram
Once you've made your Idea Pin, click on the share icon and then select either the "FBStories" or "IG Stories" icon from the menu. This initiates a download automatically and directs users over to the Facebook or Instagram app where they can edit and upload.
