Looking to the next stage in eCommerce and the facilitation of product discovery, Pinterest today launches TwoTwenty-the dedicated team of engineers, designers, and content and product experts who will test and launch new ideas for the platform.

Ideas come from all corners of the company through Makeathons and a submission portal called 'Idea Factory'. TwoTwenty then go to work researching, prototyping, and testing to identify features that have traction. But after experimentation, these incubation ideas are productionized at scale and handed off to other teams within the company.

Indeed, it is a project's dedicated group, more of a Facebook NPE team, but more aimed at experimenting with new in-app tools and functions than NPE team's explorations in new applications.

In fact, the idea behind that is that the TwoTwenty team will be able to test and push out new projects faster, providing Pinterest with an ongoing Makeathon team that will continue to iterate and experiment based on the latest trends and ideas.

Pinterest says that it first tested live-streamed creator events, developed based on feedback from creators and Pins. That has since blossomed into Pinterest TV, which the company made an official announcement about earlier in the month.
That also plays to the growing interest in live-stream commerce, which is already huge in China. The popularity of live-streamed shopping among Chinese consumers has led to Pinterest, YouTube and Facebook (or Meta) all experimenting with their own live shopping ventures to see if they could drive additional interest.

With this trend in broad scale, TwoTwenty will most likely be paying attention to more than just the feedbacks of Pinner and is highly possible that the other industry shifts may lead to its direction for building new tools and additions.

It'll be interesting to see what the team develops in response, and whether it sees Pinterest moving even faster on the latest commerce trends and tools as it looks to maximize its shopping potential. Pinterest is already hitting above its weight in visual discovery, and with video becoming a more significant element of the platform, TwoTwenty could end up playing a key role in boosting its options, and facilitating more opportunity for brand connection.
