On the International Women's Day celebrated worldwide on March 8, Pinterest unveiled a new collection on Pinterest Shop: a selection of over 400 products made and designed by women from thousands of female-founded small businesses.
"Working women were disproportionately hit by the COVID economic fallout. Last December, women accounted for 100% of U.S. jobs lost that month. There are even talks of a "Shecession". Now, more than ever, they need support".
The new highlight is female founders and it is to feature them more on Pinterest's shop platform. Earlier, Pinterest has used this shop to give due attention to sustainable products as well as Black-owned businesses.
This is in addition to the fact that from March 1 to end of March, Pinterest has created an International Women's Day fund and will match contributions made by employees to nonprofits working with women to empower them for success.
It's still too early to even begin measuring the full economic impacts of the pandemic, but platforms such as Pinterest have given creators an alternative means of building business opportunities, which is becoming significantly important, especially as eCommerce usage continues to rise.
International Women's Day is the ideal time to highlight the challenges of female business owners in general; it's wonderful to see Pinterest in action, promoting fresh opportunities while championing women creators on the platform.
