Paid membership platform for creators Patreon on Tuesday announced new features intended to help creators generate revenue from non-paying followers and tap into newer revenue streams. Among the new features announced: the ability for creators to sell individual posts; a gifting feature that allows creators to gift limited-time subscriptions to fans; and promotional tools for sharing clips on social media.
The updates reflect the company's persistent attempts to transcend its role beyond being a monetization platform. Last year, Patreon rolled out free membership tiers that allowed fans the option to follow influencer favorites without subscribing to a particular monthly subscription. The company said today in the blog post that the move has already garnered more than 30 million sign-ups.
So, Patreon added one-time purchase options for collections and posts. Now the followers can see the paywalled contents from the creators they love without any required membership purchases. Actually, one-time purchases were offered by Patreon through digital goods such as videos, podcast episodes, or images.
The platform also explored a gifting feature that will make it possible for creators to offer fans limited-time subscriptions. For instance, an influencer can give another user an unsubscribed month for a month in appreciation of someone who is a loyal follower.
In addition, Patreon allows easy interaction between free and paid members through community chat sections. Patreon is working on another feature called countdown clock and will soon introduce a live chat that encourages new and upcoming content. It is one of the new tools, auto-generating audio and video clips of Patreon posts, which will be usable teasers in social media platforms.
All those new features will be available soon, the company said.
