OpenAI-the company, as part of its global expansion plan, will open new offices in cities including NYC, Seattle, Paris, Brussels, and Singapore, apart from its existing locations in San Francisco, London, Dublin, and Tokyo.

This expansion follows the San Francisco-based ChatGPT maker announcing a massive funding round of $6.6 billion, a restructuring plan, and a series of executive departures.

In addition, the firm disclosed that managing director Oliver Jay (formerly head of APAC and LATAM at Dropbox and chief revenue officer at Asana) will run its international operations, supporting the firm's growth in Singapore.

A spokesperson for OpenAI said the company has started building a team in Singapore - that will be a hub supporting customers and partners across the Asia Pacific region. The company is currently hiring engineers, and plans to open the Singapore office at the end of this year. This is actually the second office OpenAI is opening in Asia, following the opening launched last April in Tokyo.

Singaporeans are some of the highest per capita users of ChatGPT worldwide, according to a statement released by Open AI, whose number of weekly active users in Singapore has doubled since the start of the year.

In addition to the new office, OpenAI announced it is working with AI Singapore to make its AI technology more accessible across Southeast Asia. AI Singapore was first launched in 2017 by NRF as a national program which helps Singaporean firms and research institutions adopt the application of AI.

"Singapore with the rich history of technology leadership, has emerged as a leader in AI, realizing its potential for solving society's hardest problems and driving prosperity," said Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI in its statement. "We're excited to partner with the government and the country's thriving AI ecosystem as we expand into the APAC region."
