Minecraft is coming to the real world — sort of.
The Guardian reports that Microsoft, owner of the popular video game franchise, has reached an agreement with European theme park operator Merlin Entertainments to open up attractions, ride experiences, retail outlets, and hotel rooms using Minecraft's popular theme.
Merlin will spend over $110 million on the first two Minecraft attractions, which will be located in the U.K. and the U.S. in the next two years, either in an existing park or a new city center.
According to The Guardian, Minecraft is the most sold video game of all time, where the network has a record 140 million players monthly. Last year, it emerged that this was the first single title to pass 300 million units in sales ahead of Grand Theft Auto V, Wii Sports, and PUBG: Battlegrounds.
"[Minecraft developer] Mojang and Microsoft are experts on Minecraft and the brand, Merlin are the experts on location-based experiences; [the attractions are] a shared vision," Minecraft VP of franchise development told The Guardian.
